Jupiter enters Simha on 31 October 2026: what it means for your rashi

Jupiter leaves Karka for Simha on 31 October 2026 and stays till 25 January 2027. How to count the transit from your Moon sign and read it sensibly.

On Saturday, 31 October 2026, around midday IST, Jupiter (Guru) moves out of Karka, the sign where it is exalted, and into Simha, the sign of the Sun. Drik Panchang gives the moment as 12:50 PM for New Delhi; PanchangBodh’s table puts it at 12:02 PM. Either way it is the same afternoon, and it is the first time since 2015 and 2016 that Jupiter sits in Simha. This first stay is short: Jupiter turns retrograde on 13 December and slips back into Karka on 25 January 2027, returning to Simha for a longer run from 26 June 2027.

That makes the coming three months something like a trailer. You get a first taste of what Jupiter in Simha brings to your chart, and then a proper screening later in 2027. Here is how to read it from your own Moon sign without either panicking or expecting miracles.

Where Jupiter has been, and where it is going

Jupiter spends roughly a year in each sign, but because it slows, reverses and speeds up again, it often enters a sign, backs out, and re-enters. That is exactly what is happening now. The dates below are for New Delhi, in IST, from Drik Panchang’s transit tables.

Movement Date and time
Jupiter enters Karka (exalted) 2 June 2026, 02:25 AM
Jupiter enters Simha 31 October 2026, 12:50 PM
Jupiter turns retrograde (in Simha) 13 December 2026, 06:25 AM
Jupiter returns to Karka (retrograde) 25 January 2027, 12:52 AM
Jupiter turns direct (in Karka) 13 April 2027, 07:40 AM
Jupiter re-enters Simha 26 June 2027, 05:43 AM
Jupiter enters Kanya 26 November 2027, 07:17 PM

So the full Simha transit comes in two instalments: about 86 days now, and about five months from June to November 2027. If something in your life stirs in November or December that fits the themes below, expect the same theme to return, usually with more weight, in the second half of 2027.

Why Jupiter leaving Karka is not “bad news”

Many readers have heard that Karka is Jupiter’s uccha (exaltation) sign and worry that leaving it is a demotion. Two things worth knowing. First, Simha belongs to the Sun, who is Jupiter’s natural friend, so Jupiter is comfortable there, not weakened. Second, exaltation describes the dignity of the planet itself, not how it treats you. For your personal results the question that matters far more is which house Jupiter now occupies counted from your Moon sign, and whether your running dasha supports what the transit promises.

How to count the transit from your Moon sign

Vedic transit reading, called gochar, counts houses from your janma rashi, the sign the Moon was in when you were born. If you are not sure of yours, our post on understanding your Moon sign explains how to find it; the AstroSimply app shows it on your kundali screen.

Counting is simple. Your Moon sign is house 1. Count forward through the zodiac in order (Mesha, Vrishabha, Mithuna, Karka, Simha, Kanya, Tula, Vrishchika, Dhanu, Makara, Kumbha, Meena) until you reach Simha. The number you land on is the house Jupiter is transiting for you.

The classical transit chapters, including the one in Mantreswara’s Phaladeepika, treat Jupiter as favourable when it transits the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th houses from the Moon, and as calling for patience in the rest. Applied to Simha, that gives:

Your Moon sign Jupiter in Simha falls in Classical reading Main themes
Mesha 5th Favourable Children, studies, creativity, romance, mantra practice
Vrishabha 4th Mixed Home, mother, vehicles, property matters; comfort needs effort
Mithuna 3rd Mixed Siblings, short journeys, courage; initiatives need follow-through
Karka 2nd Favourable Family, savings, speech, food; a good time to settle family matters
Simha 1st Mixed Self, body, reputation; expansion that needs discipline
Kanya 12th Mixed Expenses, foreign links, retreat, sleep; spend consciously
Tula 11th Favourable Gains, friends, elder siblings, wishes fulfilled
Vrishchika 10th Mixed Career, authority; more work, recognition may lag
Dhanu 9th Favourable Father, teachers, higher learning, pilgrimage, luck
Makara 8th Mixed Inheritance, research, sudden changes; keep paperwork tidy
Kumbha 7th Favourable Marriage, partnerships, public dealings
Meena 6th Mixed Service, routine, competition, debts; good for clearing backlog

“Mixed” does not mean harmful. Jupiter is the great benefic, and even in its less celebrated houses it tends to expand whatever the house signifies. In the 12th that can be higher spending but also a long-wished-for trip abroad; in the 6th it can be a heavier workload but also victory over a long-standing problem. Read the theme first, the label second.

Reading it from the lagna too

Pandits usually look at the transit from the Moon, and that is the convention for newspaper horoscopes. But a careful reading also counts from your lagna (ascendant), because that is where the houses of your actual life sit. If Jupiter in Simha falls in your 10th from the Moon but your 5th from the lagna, you will probably feel both: pressure at work and joy from children or learning. When the two readings agree, the effect is clearer.

Two more questions sharpen the picture:

  • Which houses does Jupiter rule in your chart? For a Dhanu or Meena lagna, Jupiter is your lagna lord, so its transit touches you personally wherever it goes. For other lagnas it rules two houses; the transit tends to bring those houses’ matters into motion.
  • What is your running dasha? A transit is a trigger, not the cause. If you are in a Jupiter mahadasha or antardasha, this transit is loud. If you are in a Saturn or Rahu period with no Jupiter connection, the same transit is a background hum. Our guide to the Vimshottari dasha explains how to find your current period.

A worked example

Take someone with Tula Moon and Kanya lagna, currently running Venus mahadasha with a Jupiter antardasha that began in the summer. Count from Tula: Tula 1, Vrishchika 2, Dhanu 3, Makara 4, Kumbha 5, Meena 6, Mesha 7, Vrishabha 8, Mithuna 9, Karka 10, Simha 11. Jupiter now transits her 11th from the Moon, the house of gains and friends, a textbook favourable position.

From the Kanya lagna, Simha is the 12th house. So alongside gains she should expect spending: perhaps a deposit on a flat, a course fee, or a trip to see a sibling abroad. Because Jupiter’s own sub-period is running, both are likely to show up rather than stay theoretical. The sensible reading is: income and opportunities rise, and so does outgo; direct the outgo deliberately. That is more useful than “Jupiter in the 11th will make you rich”.

A common misunderstanding

People sometimes say “Jupiter is in my sign, so this is my lucky year.” Jupiter transiting the 1st house from the Moon (janma guru) is actually one of the positions the classical lists treat with caution, because it inflates the sense of self and can bring weight gain, overcommitment or a too-confident decision. Simha Moon natives would do well to use this period for learning, teaching and health routines rather than grand launches, and to let the favourable 2nd house transit from June 2027 onward do the heavy lifting.

What you can do, simply

Nothing elaborate is needed for a Jupiter transit. Thursday is Jupiter’s day: a small, regular act fits the planet better than a large, one-time gesture. Reading or teaching something, helping a student, visiting a teacher or elder, or keeping a simple Thursday fast if your family does so are all traditional and entirely optional. No gemstone or paid ritual is required to “activate” a transit.

Frequently asked questions

Does the transit start at exactly 12:50 PM for everyone in India?

The ingress is a single astronomical moment, so it happens at the same instant everywhere; only the clock reading changes with time zone. Within India, IST applies across the country. Different panchangs show slightly different times because they use slightly different ayanamsa values, which is why Drik Panchang says 12:50 PM and PanchangBodh says 12:02 PM. For reading the transit, the date is what matters.

Will the retrograde in December undo the results?

No. Retrograde Jupiter is still Jupiter in Simha until 25 January 2027. Traditionally the retrograde phase is read as a time of review: matters that opened in November get re-examined, and some decisions are postponed until Jupiter is direct and back in Simha in mid-2027. Treat December and January as a time to think rather than to sign.

My rashi is Makara and Jupiter will be in my 8th house. Should I be worried?

The 8th house transit is one the texts ask you to handle with care, not fear. In practice it tends to bring hidden matters to the surface: an inheritance question, an insurance or joint-money issue, a research project, a deeper interest in spirituality. Keep documents in order, avoid lending casually and use the period to study something seriously. Your running dasha decides how much of this you actually feel.
